![]() Microsoft is making some changes to the Quick Settings panel on the Windows taskbar. One such feature Microsoft is working on is a new AI-powered user history/timeline UI, which will let users find any word, file, image, or app that was previously open on their PC using AI and Windows Copilot. While not yet in testing, word on the rumor mill suggests Microsoft is planning to introduce a more "advanced Copilot" with version 24H2 that will utilize next-generation AI PCs to improve productivity across apps, files, and search. Version 24H2 also adds a dedicated "Copilot in Windows" setting in the Settings app, which will let users enable or disable the Copilot UI from appearing on startup on PCs with large screens, as well as configure chat providers and third-party plugins. This should make it easier to access as users will be able to easily throw their cursor into the corner to open the Copilot interface. Microsoft is planning to deliver even more updates to the Microsoft Copilot for Windows with version 24H2, starting with moving the Copilot button itself to the far right corner of the Taskbar. The Copilot button is now on the far right of the Taskbar. That's probably one cow too many and several chickens too few, but you get the point. Here we have two cows, one sheep, one pig and two chickens. Also notice that the animal stalls are right in the house. A small room set down into the earth was one way to keep foods as cold as possible. The first part is the root cellar there on the left. Turning to the right we can see the refrigerator. There should be shutters on the windows (maybe trap doors would have worked) but I didn't think of that in time. The poorer people had no glass, so they kept their windows small to keep the heat in. It's a bit hard to see it in this picture, but the windows are tiny holes. Usually a cooking pot was suspended over the hearth permanently. The hearth was a stone-lined hole in the floor kept burning, as the sole means of heat, cooking, and hot water for cleaning. Moving back around past the animal pens to the front of the house, we now go in the front door and find ourselves in the central chamber, where the hearth is. Actually that is perfectly medieval cathedrals often took several dozen years to build, so looking out your windows and seeing a half-built church (for decades) was probably something a lot of people did back then. You can see SpudMunkey's giant church in front of the house. Here is the whole scope of the back area. People had a heap out back on which they let the animals forage. There was no packaging at that time, so most garbage was compostable. Most houses had one out back where they made their own tools from leather, rope, metal and wood.Ĭoming around from the tool shed we get to the garbage bin. Actually the windlass was invented hundreds of years earlier, but in the Middle Ages things moved very slowly. A windlass was a wheel you cranked by hand (more like arm, because it was hard). Walking over the little bridge from the clay deposit we get to the amazing techological wonder of the day: the windlass, which is used in this case to irrigate the family's main subsistence field. They got their wood and building stones nearby too. People back then made their own pottery, or there might have been a nearby potter, but they got their clay from the ground, usually right near where they lived. Most people knew the uses of many wild plants and relied on them often. People didn't mow their lawns back then they ate them. Note that I used bone meal to encourage lots of wild plants to grow around the house. Walking around the tiny pond, we get to the natural (ahem) clay deposit. People washed their clothes in streams, using rocks as abrasion devices. Walking to the left, we come first to the washing machine. Back then people spent most of their time out of doors. I made the signs like a conversation, but actually only a small percentage of people could read and write, at least of those who lived in houses like this one!įirst we should walk around the outside of the house. ![]() The gravel is meant to represent packed-down earth, which would go all around the house and make up its floor as well. It was supposed to be on a stone foundation but that kind of got forgotten until it was too late. The house is timber framed with cobblestone between the framing to make the walls. No chimney, that was for people with means. It has a thatched roof with a little hole in the middle for the smoke from the hearth to come out. So here is a little virtual tour of the house and homestead I made, with some interesting facts thrown in for fun. So I thought, why not make a peasant country hut? City houses at that time were tall and thin, but they were also piled on top of each other, so making just one of them would look strange. ![]() Since the instruction said "no castles" I started looking for the homes of the less fortunate. Beach Farm - Although not a good choice for new players, this map has several unique features that bump it up in my rankings: A. The major drawback, like the Forest Farm, is a significant reduction in available, tillable land (2nd worst just ahead of the Forest Farm).Ĥ. There is a river that lets you catch Cindersap Forest fish, and is also good for Crab Pots. I would recommend checking it when you start and don't be afraid to reset and start over if the access is blocked as that significantly reduces the benefit of choosing this farm). There is a non-tillable hilltop that spawns Stones, Ore and Geode nodes in the southwest of the map (although access to the hilltop can be randomly blocked with a Large Stump, Large Log, or a Boulder. Hill-top Farm - The Hill-top Farm has advantages that are great for miners: A. But if you want a map that has the best features of all the maps, or if you're planning to play with others, then I would definitely choose Four Corners.ģ. Plus it's so large and inefficiently laid out, that it can be a handful for a single player to manage by themselves. So what's the disadvantage? Well, you don't get as many renewable Large Stumps as the Forest Farm. Finally it has the second most number of tillable tiles of all the maps, just slightly behind the Standard Farm. A small quarry in the bottom right quadrant that spawns Rocks, Ore, and Geode nodes, based on your mining level (yes, you can get Iridium Nodes). A pond matching that of Cindersap Forest in the bottom left quadrant (you can put Crab Pots here). Lots of farming space in the top right quadrant, right near your farm house. 1 Renewable Large Stump and the unique weeds of the Forest Farm in the top left quadrant. In fact, if you know you're going to be playing with other players, I would actually choose this Farm over the Forest Farm. Four Corners Farm - The Four Corners Farm has the best features of all the maps, and is ideal for multiplayer games. Also, you can still place buildings where the Large Stumps spawn for when you reach a point where you need the space more than you need the Hardwood.Ģ. But ultimately I think the benefits here more than outweigh this negative. So what's the drawback? You lose a significant amount of land as this map has the fewest number of tillable tiles of any map. A large pond that allows you to catch the Woodskip, and that can double as a river for Crab Pots. Unique weeds that always drop Mixed Seeds. Seasonal forage items, including several non-standard, valuable items. 8 Renewable Large Stumps, which let you farm Hardwood much, much faster. Forest Farm - The Forest Farm gives you several bonuses that, in my opinion, make it the clear winner: A. But don't let that stop you from choosing whatever farm you prefer.ġ. I think most people feel it's a matter of personal preference, and while that's technically true, I think some farms are, actually, better than others, so I'm going to rank them from best to worst (in my opinion). It can also never be changed, so choose carefully. However, your choice of farm does have a big impact on the game. The only things that have any impact on the game at all are some 'Favorite Thing' choices ("Concerned Ape" and "Stardew" both change the message you get when you find a Stardrop, but that's just an aesthetic change). When you begin a new game you have a bunch of character customization options that mostly don't affect game play, so I won't mention them here. Year Two Guide is now live! Find it here: Part 4 covering Winter can be found here: Part 2 covering Summer can be found here: Note: All images in this guide were taken from the Stardew Valley Wiki: My principle goal of this guide is to help players achieve as much as possible in the game as quickly and efficiently as possible, under the assumption that the reader's principle goal in the game is to achieve the best possible rating on evaluation day (the first day of Year 3).Ĭonstructive feedback is welcome, and if there's something you feel I should be covering that I didn't, or if there's something that I got wrong, please let me know. Keep in mind that there is no one way to play Stardew Valley, so this guide isn't meant to be a rigid "you must do this" guide, but rather has suggestions for optimizing game play for most players, regardless of your play style. You will definitely need to make more than one game/character if you plan to unlock all of the achievements available as some of them are conflicting and you cannot get them all in a single game file/playthrough. I decided to put this guide together mostly to help new players, but also to serve as a resource for seasoned players who can use the information when starting new characters. ![]() |
